Bottle Auction: Amber hutchinson soda bottle hutch Ginger beer L. Werrbach Milwaukee Wis blob

Amber hutchinson soda bottle hutch Ginger beer L. Werrbach Milwaukee Wis blob Bottle Auction Description: Winning bidder gets an amazing amber Hutchinson soda bottle from the L. Werrbach company out of Milwaukee Wisconsin WI. Details coming shortly. Better pics will be up tomorrow. On Nov-18-13 at 21:42:56 PST, seller added the following information:The amber soda is front embossed PURE GINGER BEER arched across the front shoulder then L. WERRBACH (also arched) below and finally MILWAUKEE written in straight lettering. The reverse reads THIS BOTTLE / NOT TO BE SOLD in two lines. The bottom has a large L.W. The hutch is amber in color on the lighter side. Maybe a honey amber? The base has six-sides or facets (which is commonly referred to as a mug base). It stands 7 & 1/4 inches tall about 2 & 3/4 inches wide. This is an original authentic vintage artifact from a bygone era. The ginger beer was a type of 'small' beer. These were often soda type flavors that were mildly fermented. That explains the mix of the amber glass (typically seen on beers) and the soda bottle (Hutchinson) style, shape, and form. Any colored Hutchinson soda is hard to come by and this bottle is no exception. It is considered 'rare' in relative rarity by Roger Peters in his comprehensive collector's guide Wisconsin Soda Water Bottles (1996). CONDITION:I purchased this bottle years ago and I was very excited to get one of my first colored soda water bottles. When I bought it, it had already been professionally tumbled. I would never have done it myself, but that is the way it was when I acquired it. The tumble makes the bottle very clean and stainless. However, it is not mint. It has typical wear that you would see on returnable bottles from this era. Specifically, there is a heavy scuff or scratch on the back side angling from left to right that looks like an exclamation point. It has a line about an inch long with a point of scuff below. There is high point wear on some of the letters that looks like small bites on the embossing. There are some small scuffs above the M in MILWAUKEE. There are other smaller scratches or scuffs which have been tumbled smooth but are still visible in light. There was likely a ring of wear above the mug base, which as noted has been smoothed out. One vertical facet at the base has two or three small chips. There are a few other little bites or bruise marks. All of this is listed to be as accurate as possible. Please see my pictures for better detail and feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns.A little note about the reserve auction. I feel strange about putting a reserve on this item. I am a firm believer that a properly listed bottle will sell for the fair market value at auction. However, I paid a significant amount to acquire this and I would like to safeguard my investment. It is entirely possible that I overpaid in my enthusiasm to get some of my first early colored sodas. The reserve is significantly lower than what I paid years ago but I feel that this bottle is worth my reserve price. Thanks for looking and good luck.

Bottle Auction: Early Scar pontil J. Moons Mineral Waters Improved Patent Philadelphia

Early Scar pontil J. Moons Mineral Waters Improved Patent Philadelphia Bottle Auction Description: Early Scar pontil J. Moons Mineral Waters Improved Patent embossedJ.MOON'S / MINERAL / WATERS - IMPROVED / PATENT, Light Green, Early Scar PontilBase, 6 1/4"H x 2 1/2"W, BIM, Applied Tapered Lip, American Circa 1843-44,Condition is dug with overall staining and wear and there is a 3/8 inch chipout of the lip. Though not perfect this bottle is currently the only knownexample. I have also pictured this bottle with a normal Twitchell mineral waterto show the difference in size of the early Moons Mineral water bottle. You areonly bidding on the Moon bottle. Tod from Sodasandbeers.com wrote this article about John Moon andthis bottle. John Moon was a mineral water manufacturer with aspotty history insomuchthat he started and stopped manufacturing severaltimes during his career.John Moon was born in Ireland in about 1805 and may havecome toPhiladelphia in1834. He married a woman named Eliza andthey had theirfirst child John about 1839. This is also the firstyear that John waslisted as a grocer at 15 Fitzwater Street in the southernsection ofPhiladelphiaand near the waterfront. From here, hemoved the grocery tothe Southeast corner of Schuylkill Sixth (S 17th Street) and Lombard during1842. It isduring this time that he appears to have manufactured mineralwaters. Buthow does a grocer enter the mineral water trade? Well itappears John had a relative, R. J. Moon, who had amarble masonry businessat the corner of Race and Broad streets and operatingunder the name of R.J. Moon & Company. Marble chips are a key ingredient in themanufacture ofartificial soda and mineral waters. When these chips are combined withsulfuric acid in a generator, carbon gas isgenerated, which when infused inwater carbonates it. John must have used this connection to make a try atcompeting with the other bottlers of this time. Hewas not successful and hemoved the grocery to the Southeast corner of 13th& Brinton Streets in 1845.The following two years he was at Shippen Lane &Bedford Street. There isno listing in 1848. During this time, the absence ofmarked bottles seems toindicate that Moon had abandoned the mineral watertrade for the first time.In 1849 Moon is listed as a mineral watermanufacture. We know from theglass evidence that he partnered with a Burns as thefirm of Burns & Moon. The Burns part of the equation is unknown, but Isuspect the silent partnermay have been Mary Ann Burns, who live on Fitzwaterjust above Broad andvery close to the new firm location on the Northwestcorner of 12th &Brinton. Moore was in full controlsoon after in 1850 and removed the nameBurns" from the bottle, but the altered bottlesstill contained the telltale"B" on the reverse side. He is listed until 1852, but for thenext twoyears he is not listed and appears to have abandonedthe mineral water tradea second time. He also appears to have sold the private mold to make hisbottles to Samuel Moore, who had just moved hisliquor store from theNorthwest corner of Broad & Fitzwater to 129South Twelfth, just below Pine.Moorealtered the molds to add his name, but left the telltale "B" on thereverse. Thatmakes a set of bottles with three names all from the samemold; Burns & Moon (circ: 1849-50), John Moon (circ:1850-1852), and S.Moore(circ: 1853-57).Moon reentered the mineral water trade a third timein 1855 at the 12th &Brinton Street address. This time he was using a stock mold ponybottlewith a plate where his name was cut for theembossing. He moved again in1856 to Fitzwater & Wyoming Streets and remainedthere for three years until1859. Itappears that he died that year as his wife is listed the followingyear as a washerwoman at 2340 Vine. The Moon bottle is a recent find and is known withone slightly damagedbottle. Thebottle is boldly embossed and has the embossing "ImprovedPatent" on the reverse, which is reminiscent ofthe second Heiss bottle.Like the Heiss it has a scar pontil and would date1843-1844. It tooappears to be of South Jerseymanufacture.

Bottle Auction: Early Pontil Cologne bottle with label-EAU DE COLOGNE / DE LA VILLE DE PARIS

Early Pontil Cologne bottle with label-EAU DE COLOGNE / DE LA VILLE DE PARIS Bottle Auction Description: Offered is a Early Tubular pontil Cologne bottle with label which reads,  " EAU DE COLOGNE at the top and DE LA VILLE DE PARIS on the bottom of the label." Additionally there is Embossed lettering which reads, " N.S.P on the reverse shoulder area. This is a very crude looking bottle and if I would have to guess I would say dates around 1850's or so.  The bottle itself (glass) is in perfect condition, The label is almost complete missing only a piece in the middle and some on the edges, but is easily readable. The label depicts the lettering in banners surrounding an Eagle, shield and crown with leaves . Definetly a period label which is Red,Gold, and white.  Bottle stands nearly 7-3/4" tall x 3-1/8" at the widest bottom area. There is also some crazy looking crazing at the lip area which in my opinion only adds to the appeal of the bottle. See pics and thank you for looking.

Bottle Auction: GIV-17, Keene Masonic Flask

GIV-17, Keene Masonic Flask Bottle Auction Description: Passes light easily, lighter than most. I'd describe the color as olive-amber with much yellow. A nice example with a good strike! It displays all the crude characterstics associated with early New England Glass, sheared lip, with many bubbles and orange peel texture. An interesting crease travels across the open pontiled base of this popular flask. No highpoint wear, a coupleof insignificant scratches near the base below arch, left side, and good base ware which is an indication it sat in many widows catching sun. Note: photos were taken on an overcast day. Don't miss this better thanaverage, very nice, New Hampshire flask.

Bottle Auction: Antique Old Green Glass Fire Extinguisher Grenade Bottle Fire Fighting

Antique Old Green Glass Fire Extinguisher Grenade Bottle Fire Fighting Bottle Auction Description: cjustingrz Store 3 3/4" Tall x 3 1/4" WideInteresting example of a late 19th, early 20th century fire grenade bottle in typical round formation with a series of outside linear designs. It was commonplace during the period to have an item such as this readily available in the case of a fire. The bottle would have originally been filled with various chemicals and flame retardants. The user would simply grab the bottle and throw it at the opposing flames. The glass intern would shatter releasing the chemicals therein. As you can see this example has a beautiful aqua marine color. It is of course empty, but was likely originally sealed with a cork. *We tried it under a UV light to see if it reacts, and the visible green does light, but not as much as others we have seen. For a more detailed history of fire grenades please visit the following web address for an insightful and accurate account of the various bottle designs and usage.http://antiqueshoppefl.com/archives/mtimm/grenadebottles.htmPlease see all the images for condition and specifics... Bottle Auction: Antique Fruit Jar Pint Light Amber Putnam Trade Mark Lightning

Antique Fruit Jar Pint Light Amber Putnam Trade Mark Lightning Bottle Auction Description: Up for auction is an antique pint light amber Putnam Trade Mark Lightning fruit jar. It measures 6 1/4" tall and it is in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips. This jar is heavily whittled. The "Trade Mark Lightning" embossing on the front is strong. The base of the jar is embossed "Putnam" and it is a little light. There are some light filmy deposits on the bottom half of the jar but it really doesn't detract from this jar at all and I mention it for accuracy only. The lip of the jar has some roughness but there are no chips. The lid is free of damage. It is a little darker than the jar. The bail holds the jar a tad loose but it stays in place nicely. I welcome questions so please feel free to contact me. I combine shipping. Winning bidder to pay for shipping. International bidders please contact me before the end of the auction for shipping charges. Thank you for viewing my auction. Check out my other items!

Bottle Auction: RARE LOUISBURG NC DISPENSARY SS WHISKEY FLASK BOTTLE!!

RARE LOUISBURG NC DISPENSARY SS WHISKEY FLASK BOTTLE!! Bottle Auction Description: Here is a rare southern strap side whiskey or liquor flask. It is embossed in a slug plate LOUISBURG DISPENSARY LOUISBURG, N.C. It is a half pint bottle. I believe this is an early version of this flask as there is no full measure or warranted embossing that you see on later bottles of this type. There are some interesting looking crude swirls and waves in the glass. Bottle was dug and has some light stains that would clean up with a light tumble if desired but looks fine to me the way it is. Also a few light scratches and scuffs mainly on back. There is a spot on base that looks like it may either be an open surface bubble or a bruise but I can't tell for sure which one it is. I am leaning more towards a bubble since it looks like a bubble in the base when looking down through mouth inside to bottom of bottle. Again, this is just my opinion. Please use pictures as they are intended to be part of the items description. This is a very nice and rare North Carolina Dispensary strap sided flask to add to your collection. Don't let it get away without serious consideration as another one may not come up for sale for a long time. Insurance included in shipping cost. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
