Bottle Auction: Antique,ceramic,rare, Chemist's toothpaste Jar/pot lid

Antique, ceramic, rare, Chemist's toothpaste Jar/pot lid Bottle Auction Description: On offer is this rectangular, purple-transferred "Ozonized toothpaste" prepared by "Davies & Shepheard, Chemists, Chester." It is in good condition...no cracks or chips....just covered with the customary glaze crazing. It is supplied with what I believe is the original matching base, which is also in good condition, only the outside of the base shows evidence of some rust. This is a pretty good example of this scarce and desirable pot lid. The container measures 3 3/4" X 2 1/2".For viewers who may not be familiar with these enchanting little transferred pottery jars....they were used over an approx. 80 year period (primarily in the Victorian era) from approx.1840-1920, after which they became obsolete, due to cheaper mass marketing methods which started using tubes and plastics etc. During the period that "pot lids" were used, they produced containers in different shapes (this one, the lesser used, rectangular shape) and with all kinds of advertising and graphics, as well as pictorial images, to increase appeal. The products which were marketed, were substances which came in a paste or hardened "cake" form, which included Cold cream, Shaving Cream, ointments, cosmetics, toothpaste, and even edible products!Overseas bidders are welcome, but please note, seller is not responsible for duties or taxes which may be levied by import authorities of countries outside the U.S. I complete U.S. custom forms accurately.Payment is expected within 3 days, and if there is any hitch, please communicate and we can work something out....otherwise seller reserves the right to relist the item in the event of non-payment within the stipulated period. Thanks for viewing my auction and I wish you success in the bidding. Lord bless.

There is a tiny grain of sand size potstone with a micro radiation. The radiation is so tiny you have to look extremely close and hold the bottle at just the right angle to see it. In our opinion it detacts very little if any from this killer crude example.

Bottle Auction: Gll=63or65 Willington eagle 1/2 pint,a unique +green +

Gll=63or65 Willington eagle 1/2 pint,a unique +green + Bottle Auction Description: WILLINGTON CONN, EAGLE flask Gll-63or 65 .Circa 1855- 1865.1/2 pint..For your consideration A great example of this popular flask.I believe it to be a Gll-63. It also may be a Gll-65 with the bottles over sized double collar lip.First side has embossed eagle standing on a wreath. Liberty embossed above in arch. The reverse side is embossed WILLINGTON/ GLASS/ CO/ WILLINGTON/CONN.This flask is so close to being flawless mint. Good embossing showing all detail.I dont see any high point ware, even on the smooth base.Along with the over sized lip, and considering 1/2 the lower portion of glass is much thicker causing a two tone color image.Unique character throughout.Tiny seed bubbles and good crudity. Were the neck joins the shoulder, it almost appears that a kind of german 1/2 post meathod was used? showing a defined circular simularity. The color is a bright yellow olive green, and like I said the bottom 1/2 appears darker that in light presents it self as a two tone color.Good clearity One of the good ones that stands out.Happy Holidays..

Bottle Auction: Rare color and design, Hardens Quilted Fire Grenade!

Rare color and design, Hardens Quilted Fire Grenade! Bottle Auction Description: Up for auction is a near mint condition Hardens quilted, footed fire grenade bottle. Circa late 1800's. BIM, ground lip. It is 6-1/4 inches tall and embossed "HARDENS HAND GRENADE, FIRE EXTINGUISHER" on one side and "Patented Aug. 8th 1871, Aug. 14th 1883, No. 1" on the the other side. There appears to be either a backwards "S" or a "&" character on the bottom. These are most commonly found in cobalt blue but this one leans more toward cornflower blue with the glass darkening to cobalt in the thicker parts. It really is a very pretty color. Long before the days of the more modern brass fire extinguishers, these were found in homes, schools, factories etc. in their high fire hazard areas (near the fire place, boiler rooms etc.) They were commonly hung on the wall with a wire twisted around the neck, and designed to be smashed at the base of the fire. Multiples of 2 or 3 were also offered in a wire basket affair that also hung on the wall. Early models were filled with carbon tetrachloride which turned out to be a very poisonous chemical and was eventually replaced with salt water. The lips of these bottles were sheared and ground. A cork was stuffed into the neck and the rest of the neck was filled with concrete to prevent the cork from drying out and the contents evaporating. The most common of the Hardens (there were several manufacturers of fire grenades) is the Harden Star. The quilted model is earlier and much more rare. This bottle is in near mint condition with no chips cracks or dings aside from the chips commonly associated with ground lip bottles and some mineral stain in the neck from the concrete seal. I will send the bottle pictured above to the highest bidder. Note: Combining items can save on shipping. Also please look at the other items listed at my Ebay store.

Bottle Auction: BEAUTIFUL RARE CITRON GREEN MASONS PAT 1858 FRUIT JAR

BEAUTIFUL RARE CITRON GREEN MASONS PAT 1858 FRUIT JAR Bottle Auction Description: This is the last good jar I held onto from my jar collecting days. I have some ok pints etc., that I will eventually offer for sale, but nothing else with interesting color; and you know what jar collectors say; Color is king! This is a beautiful quart size, Citron, Mason's Patent Nov 30 TH 1858 fruit jar. And as far as the color goes; I don't have a "Spec-Tru" color identifier and will leave the exact name of this color up to you, it looks yellow/green or Citron to me. It has a ground lip, and the base (which is fairly difficult to read) has a star or + mark, there are three small diagonal number 8's, and in the center, (larger) capital A's that also look like, they could be a large M or W. I could try to include a picture of the base, if anyone is really interested, but I didn't think it would photograph very well. The jar is lightly whittled and has some nice larger to smaller seedy bubbles, it has some very light haze, (hardly worth mentioning), but otherwise the glass is clean and bright. The lid is just a common later zinc lid. The embossing is strong and best of all, the condition is near mint; there are only the tiniest little flakes on the lip of the jar, that may have occurred when the lip was ground, no cracks, no noticeable scratches, this jar looks like it was hardly used at all in it's day.One other thing; this jar has never been circulated around in the jar collecting community (not that that really matters) but I got this jar years ago from a woman (she had two of them) and they had been in her family for generations. The shipping cost includes Priority mail with Insurance, thanks, Happy Holidays, and let me know if you want more information. On Dec-01-10 at 22:53:58 PST, seller added the following information:12/1; I have added an extra picture of the base, but unfortunately the details didn't photograph very well.
