Bottle Auction: Olive AMBER Dr. Townsend's Sarsaparilla! Crude & Early!

Olive AMBER Dr. Townsend's Sarsaparilla! Crude & Early! Bottle Auction Description: From an old-time New Hampshire collection comes this olive amber "DR. TOWNSEND'S / SARSAPARILLA / ALBANY NY" medicine bottle. This is a great early New England example, likely either from Stoddard, NH or Willington, CT., circa 1840s. It has an early rough sand chip pontil mark, and a crudely applied lip. This one has WAY MORE amber than you ever see! I call it olive amber, but it is an olivey-AMBER! Excellent glass character... with heavily whittled panels, loads of tiny bubbles and good STRONG embossing!!Amazingly, this bottle must have been dug... probably back 50 years ago as it was in this collection for a very long time. It is in very fine condition with a few scratches and rub areas here and there. No haze or glass issues. There is one base corner that has a tiny 1/8" ding (pictured) which is hardly noticeable. There is also an area that has a small blob of extra glass. This is what early New England glass is all about... you will love this one for it's wonderful character! An early olive AMBER "Dr. Townsend Sarsaparilla!! Buyer pays shipping. 7 day return policy if not as described. Please check out our other listingsGOOD LUCK! On Feb-22-11 at 04:50:43 PST, seller added the following information:I added a picture of the base. I see that there is a shallow burst bubble within the pontil area.

Bottle Auction: Bright Amber 4-LOG DRAKE'S PLANTAION BITTERS, Super Emb

Bright Amber 4-LOG DRAKE'S PLANTAION BITTERS, Super Emb Bottle Auction Description: We hope you'll like this fine example of this classic bitters in about perfect condition. It is 10 1/4" tall, with an applied top and smooth base. The glass is bright, medium amber. The embossing is super-sharp and bold, which is often not the case with these cabins: S.T. / DRAKE'S / 1860 / PLANTATION / X / BITTERS - PATENTED / 1862. The bottle is bright and clean, with no stain, wear or abrasions of any kind. It would be pristine-perfect except for a teen stone in the neck where the surface glass popped off in cooling. It is about 1/16" and doesn't show, but it is a flaw, regardless of how minor. Otherwise, the bottle is gorgeous and the embossing is as sharp and clear as you will find.

Bottle Auction: Rare Stoddard Howards Vegetable Cancer And Canker Syrup

Rare Stoddard Howards Vegetable Cancer And Canker Syrup Bottle Auction Description: Up for sale is an absolutely gorgeous and EXTREMELY rare Howard's Vegetable Cancer And Canker Syrup bottle in excellent condition. The color of this bottle is a nice root beer Stoddard amber that darkens towards the bottom but color is a very subjective thing. The bottle stands approximately 7 3/8 inches tall. This is an overall excellent example with a crude neck, tons of seed bubbles and strong embossing. There are a few insignificant highpoint scratches on the bottom of the bottle that I only mention in the interest of full disclosure - extremely minor & are hardly worth mentioning. No chips, dings or scratches. This is one of the nicest examples of this rare Stoddard medicine bottle that I have ever come across and it displays beautifully. There is an almost imperceptible haze in a few spots inside of the bottle that I did not even bother to try to clean (not detectable in the pictures and I am certain it would wash out). The only other item of note is some roughness on the edge of the lip. I have been collecting bottles for over 30 years and based on my experience, and the opinions of some other very reputable collectors, this roughness was absolutely done in the making. I did the best I could to get a close up shot of this area. This may be your only chance to ever own this bottle as I cannot remember the last time one of these has been for sale. I have put this bottle under a black light to confirm that there have been no repairs. This example is just incredible. I have described this bottle as accurately as possible as I do not want any disappointments. Buyer pays actual shipping. I have added a $20 handling fee to cover insurance costs - I insure every shipment for the full amount. Full refund if not accurately described. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
