Bottle Auction: Rare Color-GRASS GREEN ///// GIX-10a PINT SCROLL FLASK ///// RED IRON PONTIL!

Rare Color-GRASS GREEN ///// GIX-10a PINT SCROLL FLASK ///// RED IRON PONTIL! Bottle Auction Description: We love scroll flasks in GREAT COLOR, with NICE CRUDELY APPLIED COLLARS and IRON PONTILS. Here's a "KILLER" SCROLL that's got all three!IN A RICH & RARE GRASS GREEN, WITH RED IRON PONTIL, AND GNARLEY APPLIED COLLAR, ONLY IT'S SMALL "SMILE" CRACK WILL ALLOW YOU TO BUY THIS BEAUTY FOR 30 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR!////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// MERCHANDISE DESCRIPTIONGENERAL DESCRIPTION When we spotted this flask at a show, we "flipped" because of the awesome color, red iron pontil and applied lip. Then came the disappointment of seeing the hairline. Long story, short, we bought it because It couldn't be a better example of a colored pint scroll in all other respects and the price was fair. These scrolls are often hard to ID because of their close similarities, but counting the points on the stars shows it's a GIX-10a. Many collectors don't care, looking primarily for color. Pint sized, it measures 2" X 5" X 6-1/16" H. Iron pontiled, it would date from late 1850's into the 1860's. A lot of RED iron pontil bottles are attributed to the Louisville Glass Works...but then a lot of flasks long assumed to be Louisville are more recently thought to be Pittsburgh.COLORWhat's in a name? Different names for color mean different things to different people. From our experience we'll call this MEDIUM GRASS GREEN. There is NO olive or amber in the color. It is NOT your ordinary yellow-green(a lighter shade of 7-up green). It is NOT a sage green, as this is a much warmer, prettier color and has no blue or grey in it. Being a slightly cool color we might have said this is a lighter shade of FOREST GREEN, but this one has just enough yellow in it to be a GRASS GREEN! Words aside, let the pictures guide you. While we can't control how your monitor reproduces our pictures, they are color-accurate on our end. IN ANY CASE IT IS A RARE, SELDOM FOUND COLOR IN A SCROLL FLASK AND BECAUSE IT IS NOT A PALE, WASHED-OUT COLOR, IT IS EXTREMELY RICH & VIBRANT, HENCE DESIRABLE!CONDITIONThis flask is ATTIC, never in the ground , nor tumbled, and is mint except for it's hairline cracks and a minute amount of hi-point. The crack that is "smile" shaped, is the size & shape of an average man's fingernail and is only 9/16" Long, end-to-end. It is located just outboard of one of the medial ribs and is 2" up from the base. Just 1/16" closer to the medial rib is a 2nd, but extremely faint, thin hairline that is 3/8" long and has some iridescence at it's upper end(faint bruising). So what we're looking at is probably the result of the flask being "bumped" or hit at this site. All this being described for accuracy, only the "smile" is visible, but not very, and not on display. Finally the Hi-point wear mentioned is only on the very tip of the two lower stars, front and rear, plus a "touch" of wear on the top of two of the four "teardrop" ends of the inverted heart-ribs.CHARACTERA TERRIFIC amount of character fills this scroll, starting with a CRUDELY APPLIED LIP...lots of SPILLOVER oozing below the band. The neck is full of STRETCH MARKS & BUBBLES including one LARGE & ELONGATED TEAR-DROP BUBBLE. The entire flask is FILLED WITH TINY BUBBLES, like carbonation in a drink. The sides between upper & lower scrolls are both SUNKEN & BULGED. There's excellent MOLD TEXTURE overall and finally, the DEEP RED-ORANGE IRON PONTIL has LOTS OF OXIDE. TERMS & CONDITIONSPAYMENTPlease pay within 3 days of auction closing. Prompt payment receives fast shipping, often the very next business day. We accept Paypal and other forms of payment.PACKING & SHIPPINGWe have lots of experience packing and shipping antique bottles and glass, using bubble wrap and "peanuts" where needed. We ship USPS, Priority. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS please note that you must accept shipment via INTERNATIONAL PRIORITY so that your purchase can be insured.RETURNS Antique and vintage items are rarely 100% "mint", having very minor flaws or at least an in-use patina. We go to great lengths to exhaustively describe our merchandise and it's condition, including these very minor imperfections, whether in-the-making or post-manufacture. All sales are final, unless in the opinion of the seller, we have made an error or omission that significantly detracts from the value of the item sold. If in doubt, please do ASK QUESTIONS. We like questions because we want you to be satisfied with your purchase, experiencing surprise only in that you may find the item to be nicer than you expected!

I mention it for complete accuracy only as it trulyis negligible/insignificant, tiny, small, etc. etc. etcA NICE FOREST or A DARK GREENCOLORATION HAMMERED WITH WHITTLING, it REALLY IS a CLEAN BEAUTIFUL HIGHLYDESIRED BOTTLE. THE LACK OF SUN TODAY FORCED ME TO USE INDOOR LIGHTING BUT I BELIEVE IT IS READILY APPEARANT THAT IT IS A REAL SPARKLER, NO CLOUDINESS/HAZE/STAINING ETC. HECK, IT ALMOST GLOWSOn Feb-15-12 at 15:41:29 PST, seller added the following information:AN INTERESTING NOTE MOST PEOPLE PROBABLY NEVER NOTICE: HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED, ALMOST ALL, AND I MEAN ALMOST ALL, PROBABLY A HI 99% OF BOTTLES ARE EMBOSSED SO THAT IF THE TOP OF THE BOTTLE IS TO THE LEFT THE EMBOSSING CAN BE READ, THIS ONE IS ONE OF THE VERY FEW BOTTLES, (and not just one as in Moffat, all Moffats to my knowledge are embossed backwards so to say), THAT IS EMBOSSED TOP TO THE RIGHT, THE GORDAKS ICELAND JELLIES ARE EMBOSSED THIS WAY ALSO AND I AM SURE YOU MAY KNOW OF OTHERS, IT CAN NOT BE MANY AND THAT'S A FACT. Not that it affects the bottles value or anything, I have just always wonderd if it is nothing more than a left handed mold maker????Theres gotta be a reason most are embossed the opposite way and do not see any physical or ornamental reasons other than it just is the way most comfortable for a right handed person. I'm left handed for the most part and certainly know nothing about mold making etc. but can not see how it would matter either way.ANYHOW, NO REAL DIFERENCE VALUE WISE, IN FACT NONE AT ALL, BUT I DO FIND IT INTERSTING AND IF ANYONE HAS AN IDEA OF WHY MOST BOTTLES ARE EMBOSSSED THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION THAN THIS ONE I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW.Always eager to learnRalph

Bottle Auction: SHIP WRECK Bottle free-blown, with BOTANICALS grown on it 1750-1800 black glass

SHIP WRECK Bottle free-blown, with BOTANICALS grown on it 1750-1800 black glass Bottle Auction Description: This one is up for auction, enjoy and have fun bidding! Please view the photos to see this beautiful Ship Wreck Bottle from the 1750s to 1800. Thanks for viewing our items on ebugs1, please check back with us we will be adding more rare old bottles from a many years bottle collection. This is my favorite Bottle, bottle collecting and digging was my first love of collecting, then it went to Indian Artifacts, but still love my bottles. Hope you enjoy them as I have. This bottle is an great investment. Free shipping in the usa. This bottle is in good condtion to survive a ship wreck and 260 years of being around. It has coral or botanicals growing on it,from being in the salt water many years, it has one impact crack on the rounded part coming up to the neck as you can see in the photos, I would say it got there from the ship wreck looks like it was from bumping another bottle, it's a round crack, but nothing that hurts it at all just adds character, to all the character it already has. This bottle really looks good displayed. Can be a great conversation piece. From what I have studied on this bottle is likely a Dutch (possibly English) generic liquor bottle most likely made between 1750 and 1800. Here is some history about this Bottle. It was told to me that it was found at a ship wreck, off the coast of Key West, Florida.Free-blown bottles were produced without the aid of a mold, being instead formed and shaped by the skills of the glassblower using manipulation of the blowpipe (the use of which dates back to the 3rd century B. C.), various simple hand tools, a hollowed out block, and usually a flat table called a marver. Free-blown utilitarian bottles found or made in the U.S. typically date from before the American Civil War (early 1860s and prior) and of course can be much older than that. They were rarely produced after the 1860s by American glass companies producing utilitarian bottles but the technique is still likely being used to some degree for specialty or artist bottles. The following are the primary characteristics of a free-blown bottle. The bottle formed without a mould will generally not be symmetrical in body, shoulder, neck or base. There are no mold seams, no embossing, no moulded decorations, and the exterior glass surface tends to be smooth and glossy, patinated areas excepted. The lines of the bottle will not be sharp, but will flow. Although free forming of glassware can produce some of the most elaborate shapes, being free from the confining borders of the mould, simple globes and elongated shapes are the easiest to form free-hand in quantity, so that free-blown commercial containers are most likely to be these shapes. There is a tendency for the glass to be evenly distributed in the various areas of the bottle. One additional observation is that the glass at the heel or base edge of a free-blown bottle will tend to be somewhat thicker than the rest of the bottle which will be fairly evenly distributed , In addition, the heel and extreme lower body of a free-blown bottle will often flare out somewhat with the base diameter being slightly wider than the average diameter of the bottle body. Both of these features are related and caused by a combination of the action of the tool that formed the push-up inside the base and the hot glass flowing or sagging as it was not contained by any mold surface.A. Bottle Auction: Coughlan Baltimore, Civil War era colored soda w/ Savannah, GA mold connections!

Coughlan Baltimore, Civil War era colored soda w/ Savannah, GA mold connections! Bottle Auction Description: This auction is for one bottle only, the other bottles shown in the group color and size comparison photo, are currently being offered in separate eBay listings.Up for offers now with NO reserves and a low starting bid, is a 7 & 3/8" tall, pony shaped, soda, beer, or mineral water type bottle embossed on the front side " WM. COUGHLAN / BALTIMORE ". The back side of the bottle shows where this particular bottle mold was modified, and had the following embossing filled in to remove it " HELLER & CO / (star or rising sun symbol) / SAVANNAH / GEO, ". I have attached a photo of the embossing from an iron pontiled green glass Heller & Co bottle to this listing, for visual reference only. These Wm. Coughlan bottles date to the early years of the Civil War, and an example from this mold was excavated within the past few years from an 1862 Civil War camp in Virginia to help confirm this dating. These Coughlan bottles are not uncommon in aqua or teal green colored glass, but this is the only example I have ever seen in the yellow green coloration, and on top of that, it is an undug, uncleaned example, with no chips, cracks, or condition issues. Please see my other current Ebay auctions for more antique bottles, excavated relics, and neat old stuff. Please also see the attached flyer promoting the Baltimore Antique Bottle Club's upcoming show and sale !! It is always a huge enjoyable event, and one you will not want to miss. We will be there as usual at table B-1, and have been saving up some very interesting artifacts just for this show. Payment for these auctions should be received by me within 6 days of auction closing please. I accept Paypal and possibly other forms of payment per your requests and Ebay policies. If you win multiple auctions I will gladly and carefully combine the items into one package to reduce the shipping costs. Shipping costs will vary depending upon your location, and are based on Ebay's online shipping calculators for US Priority Mail, and estimated package weight. A $2.50 handling charge is automatically added by Ebay to the calculated shipping cost, and due to the fragile nature of these items and Ebay's policies, this handling charge is used to insure all shipments by either the US Postal Service or other means. We use this method so that all packages are insured, and that you know the actual shipping costs to your location as you place your bids. I will ship internationally to buyers who use Paypal, and I require that the winning international bidder email me promptly upon auction completion with their shipping address, so that I may get a shipping quote to their country from the US Postal service, and email them back with the total payment due including the shipping. Have some fun with these no reserve auctions, and good luck!Thank you

Bottle Auction: GI-32 Olive Amber Washington / Jackson Flask

GI-32 Olive Amber Washington / Jackson Flask Bottle Auction Description: Up for auction is a GI-32 Washington / Jackson historical flask in a rich olive amber color. Unlike some examples, this flask is boldly embossed on both sides with a light pebbly textue to the glass and it has a large tubular pontil.. This flask is in excellent condition and has no chips, cracks, stains, bruises, or fisheyes in the glass. The only issue that keeps this flask from being in attic mint condition is some very light high point wear on both sides of the bottle and on the base which is common for these flasks. This is a sparkling example of a truely historical piece and be a fine addition to any collection. Good luck and bid with confidence.

Bottle Auction: Savanah Eagle

Savanah Eagle Bottle Auction Description: These Pre-Civil War bottles were used in above the Mason-Dixon line but for some reason many more were used by bottlers in the South, especially Savannah and Charleston. Young Northerners aspired to be Politicians and Lawyers , young Southerns aspired to be Military leaders. Considering the Army was mostly filled with men from there prior to the war it makes sense that patriotic bottles helped bottlers sell beverages. As the Federal Government legislated unpopular policies viewed threatening to the Southern way of life a separatist movement grew throughout Eventually Southerns found it distasteful to drink from these bottles which some labeled "Skull Cap". As these sentiments grew stronger and stronger it lead to the decision to seperate from the North and form a Confederacy where they hoped to live the way they wanted. These events shaped us into the proud country we are today. Not intended to raise controversy at the time this bottle most likely dates to prior to the war, but is a smooth based example that just missed being pontiled.Nice emerald green color stands 7 1/2 inches with an applied top that exhibits the same character as pontiled examples do. I purchased it years ago so I'm not positive but it seems to be professionally cleaned to the original texture. Certainly not over cleaned, retaining minor scratching and some case wear on the opposite side of the embossed eagle that does not detract fom its beauty. Embossed CHs A H Umbach// Savannah//GEO

Bottle Auction: 1906 RENO NV NEVADA (WASHOE CO) THE CRYSTAL, SALOON H .THYES TOKEN, X-RARE R-10

1906 RENO NV NEVADA (WASHOE CO) THE CRYSTAL, SALOON H .THYES TOKEN, X-RARE R-10 Bottle Auction Description: You are bidding on an EXTREMELY RARE AND EARLY "good for" trade token once "good at the bar only" at "THE CRYSTAL" SALOON (documented) run by proprietors "H.J. THYES" in the old downtown of Reno Nevada.THIS IS A TERRIFIC OLD TOKEN. This particular token from The Crystal is one you NEVER SEE...and I believe this is the NICEST SPECIMEN KNOWN.I was told that this token is actually a "go with" with a whiskey bottle or flask issued by the Crystal...if so this adds another level to collectibility. If you look in there older Nevada trade token book (schilling, et al) this token shown as "1 specimen known", an R-10 token..nothing changed in the new book.If you look in the new Nevada trade token catalog (Haddock), this token is listed under Reno as catalog #1395. Author shows this token as X-RARE R-10 which translates to the rarest of the rare.....token books for $200. I believe personally this has to be the nicest one out there.Trade token is aluminum, 8 scalloped, about 30mm in diameter (size of 1/2 dollar), and it displays nicely. (please see pictures in gallery) THIS IS A BEAUTY !!One side says: " THE CRYSTAL --- H.J. THYES PROP'R --- RENO, NEV. patrick s.f. " (token has maker marks)Other side says " REDEEMABLE --- AT THE --- BAR ONLY "Often old Nevada tokens can be found in "dug" condition, this is VERY LIKELY THE NICEST ONE OF THESE ON THE PLANET...rare and beautiful. If you look in the new Nevada token book or the old token book...this is an R-10 token, once used around 1906 at The Crystal Saloon in old downtown Reno Nevada. Thanks so much for looking....collect and invest in history!!!!! Tangible assets are always the best ones. Here are my policies:1) Per ebay policy.....Paypal is now the preferred method of payment. (U.S. dollars only) Paypal is welcomed, but email me with any questions you might have about this policy. 2) I will combine shipping for multiple purchases to save winning bidder some money.3) Payment is required within 7 days of the close of this auction.4) All International bidders must contact me prior to bidding. I will advise if I can ship to your country, and estimate the costs. (I do not ship to all countries)5) I diligently try to package items properly (redundant inner packaging, etc). I do not seek to profit from shipping, but only to "do things right".... so you are happy with your purchase when it arrives.6) Please email if you have questions!!!
