Bottle Auction: C. ALLEN BROWNE MINERAL WATERS BOSTON Iron Pontil - Green & Whittled

C. ALLEN BROWNE MINERAL WATERS BOSTON Iron Pontil - Green & Whittled Bottle Auction Description: At just about 6 3/4" tall, this squat mineral water bottle is medium green, darker in the lower section, lighter in the shoulder and neck. It was blown into a two piece mold, and has a large single collar top. The base is concave, with an iron pontil scar, and lots of wear. It is a dug bottle, and has bold embossing, which reads "C. ALLEN BROWNE - BOSTON - MINERAL WATERS". The glass is very whittled, with extensive external haze. There may be internal haze also, but it's hard to tell. The lip edge has a few tiny flea bites, one of which is barely large enough to be called a chip. The bottle would be greatly improved by tumbling. I think it's a good candidate, as the embossing is bold. I don't see any other problems. Possibly from the 1850's. Thanks.

Bottle Auction: SCARCE OP Boston "Clorine Toothwash Compound" medicine!

SCARCE OP Boston "Clorine Toothwash Compound" medicine! Bottle Auction Description: Here is an early medicine bottle from a Boston based merchant... this is a "LOWE'S & REEDS / COUMPOUND / CHLORINE / TOOTHWASH" standing just under 5" tall. This is one tough bottle to find... as I see that there has only been a couple of examples sold at auction, the last being Greer (#1079). These are cylinder in form, with embossing all around. The serif font is very thin but still pretty bold and fully legible. The base has a tubular pontil mark, and the lip is an outwardly folded type. These bottles look to be pretty early, and I would suspect they were produced at Keene NH or possibly the South Boston area. This one is in excellent condition and would be a great addition to any medicine collection. Sweet early bottle with neat embossing! An early open pontil "TOOTHWASH" bottle from a Boston merchant! Buyer pays shipping. 7 day return policy if not as described. Please check out our other listingsGOOD LUCK!

McLean's Volcanic Oil Liniment, among others. The Strengthening Cordial contained mostly alcohol while the Volcanic Oil Liniment might have had crude petroleum (which was a main ingredient in Mexican Mustang Liniment). "Dr." McLean briefly served in Congress to fill out an unexpired term. He was defeated at the next election. He turned to weapon design, hoping to created the most fearsome weapon ever in hopes of dissuading countries from fighting wars. DescriptionThis is great pontiled medicine from St. Louis. Bottle Auction: Rare 1870's New-Bedford Ma.Bitters Bottle: 'DR. J. SWEETS STRENGTHENING BITTERS"

Rare 1870's New-Bedford Ma.Bitters Bottle: 'DR. J. SWEETS STRENGTHENING BITTERS" Bottle Auction Description: This is a "Rare" Bitters, according to the Carlyn Ring book, "FOR BITTERS ONLY", and is pretty hard to find, in general. Featuring NO CRACKS, CHIPS, STAINING, RADIATING-POT-STONES, ETC. comes this bouncing, beautiful 1870's-era New-England Square-Bitters Bottle, which is the Crudest Example, that I have ever encountered. Adding to the appeal of this particular example, is a strange, blobby-settlement of glass, in the mid-section of the bottle, which has left a very thick 'region' of glass, and some great swirling, where the extra-glass cooled.. there is a long, fairly thin stretched-bubble, just below the Thick section of glass, and it just looks great!!! The color of this one is awesome, as well. It's a Very-Clean Example, and I really have enjoyed owning it. The line of Medicines Patented and Marketed by Job Sweet, of New-Bedford, Ma. always seem to have a good-deal of 'crude-ness, with the nice big, crooked 19thc-styled lettering, and the applied-tops.Sweet's othere medicines include the "Relaxative Ointment", which is a small square-bottle, and another rectangular medicine, which I believe is a liniment. Having lived with-in fifty-miles of New-Bedford, Ma., for the bulk of my life, I have probably encountered less than a dozen examples of this bottle, but I know they dis-appear, from sight, the further one gets away from Massachusetts. Would probably never see one of these bitters in the south, etc. Good Luck~
