Bottle Auction: OUTSTANDING! OPEN PONTILED FLINT GLASS CITRATE OF MAGNESIA - SUPER NICE!

OUTSTANDING! OPEN PONTILED FLINT GLASS CITRATE OF MAGNESIA - SUPER NICE! Bottle Auction Description: Up for auction is an early flint glass medicine that is rarely seen offered on Ebay. This is a clear CITRATE OF MAGNESIA bottle that stands 7" with an unreal double collar lip treatment with concentric lines found on early meds. The embossing is extremely bold and there are nice sized bubbles with heavy whittle throughout the piece. The bottle sports a huge, deep, rough open pontil with nice base wear. The only item to mention is a slight scuff and small scratch along the base (see last photo) that is smooth, but present. This would not be uncommon for a utility of this type, but mentioned for complete accuracy. I do have a reserve on this one and those of you who follow my auctions no I don't usually use a reserve. The reserve is what I have in this bottle that I have owned for many years. A super nice, sparkling pontiled example of flint glass, good luck! As always, thanks for looking at my auctions, more to come and please check my feedback.

There are some scratches, and enamel is missing at a couple of spots here and there, but for its age it is miraculous. To come across a bottle of this type and have this much supporting evidence to its age and authenticy as an European original is something special.Happy Bidding.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Brief bio of King Joao V,Born: 22-Oct-1689Birthplace: Lisbon, PortugalDied: 31-Jul-1750Location of death: Lisbon, PortugalCause of death: unspecifiedRemains: Buried, São Vicente de Fora, Lisbon, PortugalExecutive summary: King of Portugal, 1706-50 João V, King of Portugal, was born at Lisbon on the 22nd of October 1689, and succeeded his father Pedro II in December 1706, being proclaimed on the 1st of January 1707. One of his first acts was to intimate his adherence to the Grand Alliance, which his father had joined in 1703. In October 1708 he married Maria Anna, daughter of Leopold I, thus strengthening the alliance with Austria; the series of unsuccessful campaigns which ensued ultimately terminated in a favorable peace with France in 1713 and with Spain in 1715. The rest of his long reign was characterized by royal subservience to the clergy, the kingdom being administered by ecclesiastical persons and for ecclesiastical objects to an extent that gave him the best of rights to the title "Most Faithful King", bestowed upon him and his successors by a bull of Pope Benedict XIV in 1748. João V died on the 31st of July 1750, and was succeeded by his son Joseph. On May-08-12 at 12:34:02 PDT, seller added the following information:Answer to question on bent metal top: The shaping of the metal topper is consistent with a common practice of the day. If someone decided to put aside etiquette and drink straight from the bottle, they would bend down the sharp edges of the metal, to decrease the chance of cutting their lip. If you take a close look at the shaping of this top, you can see where the owner crimped down one side more than the other to shape it for drinking.

Bottle Auction: A Fine 18th Century Dutch Onion Black Glass Wine Bottle, circa 1730

A Fine 18th Century Dutch Onion Black Glass Wine Bottle, circa 1730 Bottle Auction Description: rhusrluk rhusrluk Antique glass in good taste - harmic.littlePlease see images below for a wonderful condition 18th Century Dutch black glass onion form wine bottle, circa 1700 - 1730. This free blown bottle is dark olive green in color. The form is an early true globular / bulbous, onion shape. It has a high cone shaped and kicked up underside; a sharp, circular pontil scar; and a tapering neck with an applied overlapping string rim. Typically, these early wine bottles have minor cracks or chips. The condition of this bottle is excellent with NO chips, dings, or cracks. The surface is clean and with wear consistent with the age. This bottle has several large air bubbles within the glass, especially in the neck (see photos below). If you are looking for a distinguished, unpolished, and legitimate early 18th century wine bottle, they don't get much better, either in form or condition.   Height of the bottle is approximately 6 3/4 inches and the body diameter is 5 1/2 inches. Given those dimensions, this bottle is slightly smaller than most. For further information see Roger Dumbrell, Understanding Antique Wine Bottles, 1983, p. 136. This bottle will make a distinguished early 18th century decorative accessory, a decanter for actual use in serving wine, or a highlight addition to your dealer inventory.  This is a desirable antique wine bottle that will look fantastic on an early scrub top tavern table. Thanks for looking, tracking, bidding, and book-marking this fine 18th century tavern bottle. SELLING TO THE HIGH BIDDER WITHOUT RESERVE!Absolutely guaranteed authentic. Bottle Auction: Elsholz Collection Sandwich Glass Smelling Salt, with Fiery Opalescence ca 1835

Elsholz Collection Sandwich Glass Smelling Salt, with Fiery Opalescence ca 1835 Bottle Auction Description: Early Sandwich Glass Smelling Salt Bottle circa 1835Up for sale is this fabulous piece from the famous William J. Elsholz collection of early American glass. Elsholz began collecting glass in the 1930's, and continued until shortly before his death at age 93 in 1986. The color of this one is almost colorless to pale opalescent in the upper part to the stopper, and with an exquisite fiery opalescence in the lower portion as can be seen in the photos. In mint condition, with some minor scratches and wear on the cap as to be expected, and a tiny 1/8 inch dent on one side as can be seen.
